This is What Happens When You Give Thousands of Stickers to Thousands of Kids

This December, in a surprisingly simple yet ridiculously amazing installation for the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, artist Yayoi Kusama constructed a large domestic environment, painting every wall, chair, table, piano, and household decoration a brilliant white, effectively serving as a giant white canvas. Over the course of two weeks, the museum’s smallest visitors were given thousands upon thousands of colored dot stickers and were invited to collaborate in the transformation of the space, turning the house into a vibrantly mottled explosion of color.

Own A Colour - and help save a child’s life

The Own a Colour website opens for business this week to raise money for vulnerable children across the globe.

The site lets you buy and name your own personal colour from a choice of over 16.7 million shades for a minimum donation of just £1 per colour. All money raised goes towards our work for children.

You might want to choose a colour that’s trending, a colour near to one recently purchased by a celebrity supporter, or simply your favourite colour.

Either way, once you’ve selected a colour, it takes just a few minutes to register and make a donation. Then you can tell friends and family all about it through Facebook and Twitter.

Own a Colour is powered by Dulux, who have already helped to improve the living environment of many people across the world through their Let’s Colour programme.

Our initial design explorations yielded futuristic printer concepts such a “printing home hub,” a “Roomba printing device,” and other concepts that are 5-10 years out; but in the end we chose to focus our design work on a solution that that is near-term and breathes new life into this humble “peripheral” by radically simplifying it.

“This assignment was to redesign a board game. I chose twister and decided to gear it toward the designy museum gift shop crowd (who wouldn’t want to design for them eh?) by turning the original primary color scheme into CMYK. A play on the printing process ensues.”
